Welcome to our new adapter ring that reduces the eye in Prawn Creels from 75mm
down to 60mm to reduce the amount of small brown Crabs getting into the creels.
The small brown crabs are real problem in certain areas and fishermen have been
fitting 60mm Cod End Rings with cable ties to curtail the problem. Fitting Cod
End rings with cable ties takes up valuable time at sea whereas the new ring
comes with its own clips and can be fitted in seconds from the outside of the
creel. The ring has a unique shape so as not to present a step in the entrance
to the prawn.
The ring comes with two plastic clips which are part of the moulding. The clips
are twisted to release them from the moulding and are clipped on to the ring.
The ring is then offered into the eye where the locating leg is fitted in to
the bottom mesh nearest the entrance ring already in the creel. The ring is
then laid against the existing ring and the clips are sprung into place on the
existing ring. All this can be done from the outside of the creel and literally
takes seconds. The ring is very securely attached and is in front of the
existing ring and so resists any pushing from the crabs.
The added advantage is that the rings can be just as easily removed so that the
creels can be used for Lobster/Velvets and then revert back to prawn fishing as
and when needed. Ian Hector Morrison of the FV Provider who has fitted 800 of
them says "they fish every bit as good as the Cod End Ring
without the hassle involved in fitting the Cod End Ring" .
