The baiter is a plastic bait tube designed for fitting to prawn, velvet, and shrimp creels. It fits into a creel in the same position as the traditional bait bag. It comprises a solid mesh outer tube, which houses an automatically retracted cartridge that is pulled up from the outside of the creel. By pulling up the cartridge the old bait is removed and at the same time the fresh bait can be added. This is all done from the outside while the other crewman fishes the creel.
This new system will allow creels to be baited and hauled more quickly. The Baiter also preserves the bait for longer, keeping the creel fishing for longer and allowing a longer soak. Some fishermen report considerable savings on bait costs using this system.

The baiter can also be retro fitted to the old traditional roped and netted creel. This is done by cutting a hole in the netting and fitting the baiter through it. The cut net is then pulled tight using a cable tie. The process can be seen in the short video on the link below.
The Baiter has undergone a major redesign to make it easier to assemble and use. It now comes in a kit, which includes the two outer halves, the core, length of 4mm bungee and four cable ties. To assemble it you put together the two halves and use three of the cable ties through the loops provided to tie the two halves together. Then take the length of bungee and tie the two loose ends in an overhand knot and work it tight near the ends. Thread the loop end of the bungee through the hole in the base of the core and hook it on to the hook at the top of the core. Slide the core into the outer and slip the knotted end of the bungee over one of the hooks on the outer halves. The fourth cable tie is to tie the baiter to the base of the creel once its in place. The grip on top of the core has also been modified so it is no longer necessary to fit the string.
