Toggles
The new toggle has been developed by Stornoway Plastics in response to some fishermen who were tired of loosing creels due to the blue water pipe flexing and letting creels go. A toggle was asked for that would be streamlined for ease of threading and stronger than the rope. We machined some prototypes of a similar plastic to that used in our blue hook and gave them to the various fishermen to test.
Some were field tested as far away as Ireland. The results of these tests were used by the engineers at Stornoway Plastics to develop the toggle design to provide optimum function and ease of use. This has resulted in the fishermen saying that it is particularly effective in undoing tangles as the shape is like a Fid Spike that can easily be threaded through the rope bunch and it is also far quicker to un-toggle than the water pipe. In extensive testing the toggle has consistently proved stronger than any rope available. The new Stornoway Plastics toggle also means that fishermen no longer have to waste long hours cutting and drilling water pipe.
